What is a Magical Fairy?
Our volunteers are lovingly called Magical Fairies. A Magical Fairy is a caring person who "flies" in to help create Magical Moments, brings along love and laughter, fun and playfulness, sprinkles "magical fairy dust" and "flies" away leaving behind hugs and kisses and happy, smiling faces.
What skills do Magical Fairies need?
Love, compassion, fun, hard-working, resilience, initiative, playfulness. Any other skills like story telling, face painting, event co-ordination, music or art skills, etc. would be an additional bonus. Fairies are child friendly, hands-on and willing to do any kind of work that may be required at an event, from washing little hands and faces to serving or preparing meals, singing, giving hugs, playing games. Own transport is required and sometimes long distances are travelled. Services are provided on a voluntary basis.
How do Magical Fairies get "wings"?
Contact us to find out when our next Magical Moment will be held and join us as we celebrate with the children. Our profile of children is 2-12 and we are active in creches, nursery schools, day care centres, primary schools and feeding schemes. These organisations do not operate on weekends and therefore events are held during the week, usually on a Tuesday or Thursday. Most events are from 09h30-13h00, depending on the nature of the event, venue and beneficiary.
Fairies don't smoke and do not use cell phones (while interacting with the children). No private photographing of the children is permitted. Fairies bring their own bottled water and specific dietary requirements. Our priority is to take care and feed children as fairies can take care of themselves. Fairies "feast" on love, laughter and fresh air.
What do fairies wear?
Casual, comfortable clothing. A white sleeveless t-shirt will be given to all Magical Fairies to wear during the duration of the event. During inclement weather, please wear a long-sleeved t-shirt or sweater underneath the t-shirt so that the Magical Moments' branding is visible for ease in identification. Please return the t-shirts before you leave, with your name label attached. We encourage you to wear festive headgear i.e. funky Alice bands, tiaras, party hats so that the children see us as playful, fun and friendly. Wings are optional.
Magical Moments takes community service very seriously, particularly as the organisation is fully volunteer-driven and we embrace reaching out to the community with honour. More importantly, in line with our vision, philosophy and ethos, we “serve” with dignity, respect and integrity, from the heart. We expect all our volunteers to do the same.
Community service hours are calculated on the exact time that the learner is either engaging with our beneficiaries or “serving” the community and does not include travel time to and from the venue or shopping time (unless under the supervision of a senior Magical Fairy). The letter is only provided on the basis that the learner does engage and not merely makes an appearance, solely with the intention of fulfilling an obligation to perform these hours.
Should you be interested in becoming a Magical Fairy (a volunteer), please contact us for further information. Fairy mail is sent out prior to each event, notifying fairies of forthcoming Magical Moments.
P.S. Magical Fairies are rewarded with love and hugs and don't get financial compensation. A smile on a child's face, an embracing hug or a gurgle of laughter and shrieks of delight are the gifts that feed our soul. Priceless. Precious. Worthwhile.
A fabulous forest of fairies
We acknowledge all our magnificent Magical Fairies who give of their valuable time, themselves and their love to help us create Magical Moments for the special children whose lives we touch. We drive miles and miles to deliver smiles.
